I talked to Laura around 1:00. She said that Kirk had eaten some oatmeal this morning for breakfast. He got up and took a shower and sat up for a little while. He ate a little broth and drank some Ensure for lunch. So, it looks like he is starting to eat a little on his own now. She said that he actually looked like he was "filling out " a little bit, maybe gaining a little weight back. It is possible that they will be able to come home sometime next week. I noticed that some of the nurses from BRMC had commented on the post a few days ago. Laura had said that they had made some friends when he was out there. The nurses up in Cleveland are the same. They just love Kirk. Isn't that so typical of him to make friends no matter where he is or how bad he is feeling. They do have many friends and that is why I believe there is HOPE for Kirk. I wear my little Relay for Life bracelet everyday that says HOPE because he means so much to us and to his family. So, keep praying for his strength, and healing. He is in God's hands.
I posted the address to the Cleveland Clinic on the right side of this page at the top above Kirk's picture. If anyone wants to send cards, keep in mind that they might come home sometime next week you may want to go ahead and send them so that they will reach them up there.

Wanted to let everyone know that Kirk is reading the comments right now and he said keep the prayers coming. He also said to let everyone know that Britney Spears has nothing on him, he has the prettiest bald head that ever was. He had it buzzed today to get rid of the sheading. I think it looks sexy but how could Kirk not be cute. Kirk says that he can't wait to get back to RR to see everyone and says to tell you all that he misses and loves you!
Dear Kirk and Laura,
It is so great to hear that things are going better. We join with the rest of the folks from Rural Retreat and beyond wishing you continued improvement and that you will soon be home with your friends and family. There is an outpouring of love and concern for you from everyone here. We continue to remember you in our prayers daily. We hope you know that for every person who posts their comments to you, there are probably a hundred who check the website daily and are praying for you too. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

Kirk,
You may start a fad, everyone will want a buzz cut or shaved head now,
just to be like you, because you are such a great guy.
Hang in there,cuz.
Love,
Sabrina
It is so good to hear that you feel like joking around. That's the Kirk I know! You hang in there buddy and just keep eating and drinking as much as you can stand. Hopefully, you are about to clear a hurdle. All you need is to get back on the farm and drink some good ole fattening cow's milk. We are still praying for you and can't wait until you two are back in R.R. where you belong.
Take Care and God Bless,
The Cressell Clan
Most of you probably know me, however some may not, however I am Kirk's cousin.
I am on a Relay for Life team that will be part of the event in May at Withers Park in Wytheville.
All money raised will go to cancer research.
Relay of Life is an event that raises money to fight the disease.
Luminaries are candles that are lit at the event in honor of or in memory of cancer patients.
The cost of this is $5.00 per luminary.
If anyone would like to donate $5 for a candle to be lit in Kirk's honor please let me know. This would be a great way to show our support for Kirk and also to help benefit the American Cancer Society.
Our team has been working very hard to raise money. Today in a team meeting, we challenged all members to get as many luminaries in Kirk's honor as possible, so that our campsite that night will shine with all of our love and support for him.
Let's see how many candles we can get lit for Kirk, our hometown hero.
You can mail the money to me with your name.

I will keep a list of everyone and the American Cancer Society will send a notice to Kirk & Laura for every donation made.
The support will be greatly appreciated.
Feel free to contact me for any information or I will be glad to pick up from you.

Thanks to everyone for all the prayers and support for Kirk, and his family.
Now I think Janelle in coming into the competition of who has the prettiest bald head!. You would not believe at the people who have told her she needs to shave her head now that Brittany Spears has. Now that you have bragged that you have a prettier bald head, Janelle may enter the contest! HA HA. Listen I haven't posted a comment lately but have been checking your progess on a daily basis. Glad to hear you're eating more solids now. I am sure that jello and popsicles are getting really old. I remember how you like fried chicken, pinto beans, and chocolate cake. So I am praying for the day you can come home and eat lots of everything you like. You have never stopped being in our prayers. Donna Wilson
Hey big guy! I just wanted to drop in and say that I've been thinking about you alot. I want you to know that everyone I pass, either in Wal-Mart, or while I'm at the hospital doing clinicals, asks about how you are. They are all praying for you and care about you so very much. They all think you are the best thing that ever was :) I wanted to let you know that I (Shawna is also graduating at WCC- so it's a double-whammy !)will be graduating on May 11. I have sent you guys an invitation and God willing, I hope to see you there. I might have to wear my sunglasses when I walk across stage, cause your bald head will shine right through and blind me lol I'm kidding, you know I love ya! :) I'll buy you an awesome dew-rag to wear! I'm glad to hear that your condition is improving and with each passing day, you are regaining strength. Never forget how much we love and care about you!!
Love Always,
Janelle
P.S. You ain't got nothing on me about the whole Britney deal..No one could be bald and look as good as you can..you still got it:)
Kirk & Laura,
Keep the GOOD news coming! Continued faith and prayers will continue to come your way. We look forward to your return back to RR very soon!
Our continued thoughts and prayers,
Bronson, Rhonda, Meagan & Jay
Kirk,
You have GOT to eat.
Love,
Linda R.
Kirk,
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I'm sure you've realized that there so many people praying for you. Some do not even know you. It's a very humbling experience, and makes you proud to live in a small town. You need to take care of yourself, and listen to what the doctors tell you. If I remember (and beleive me with as many times as you wrecked your 4 wheeler, fell off a horse, etc. I will not forget you) patience is not one of your stronger points. Don't worry you will get the hang of it. I know you can and will beat this, but not as quickly as you would like!!
Laura, please take care of yourself. The only words of encouragement I can give you is the same that has been given to us for the past 14 years. God will not put more on you than he knows you can handle. He is with you each step of the way and will help you to have the strength to help Kirk. Plus behind every strong man stands and even stronger woman
!! Just remember to ask for help when you need it. It does not mean your weak, it means you are human and there are plently of people out here willing to help.
Matthew and Chase, you are in our prayers also.
We will continue to pray for you and your entire family.
Gordon, Libby, Lynn & Cody Hoback
That oatmeal may put hair on you chest!!! Great to hear your day went better. We are sending prayers heavenward for all of you. Glad the boys were able to make a quick trip. Hugs and blessings, Becky and David

I just discovered the blog a few days ago and it's great. We miss you here in RR but know it's just a matter of time before you'll be home for good. Take care and hope to see you real soon!!!
